Just a few short hours later it was time to hit the road. We were doing pretty well and making decent time, so we decided to take an hour lunch break. This involved getting gas, going to the bathroom, nursing Rowan, and getting lunch at Sonic for myself, my mom, and Hudson. For those of you who don't know, I come from a family where road trips mean we don't stop often. Unless it's time for food or gas you aren't getting a bathroom break. My parents drilled this into me from a young age and, because of that, I now have no tolerance for doddling. So giving ourselves an hour break was really something. Hudson, of course, loved it! He played in the front seat and pretended to drive. He loves pushing all the buttons and turning up the volume of the radio. While he played my mom fed him. We were so pleased that he ate most of his grilled cheese and several tater tots. Lunch had been a success and we were energized to get back on the road!
Everything was going great until several hours later. Hudson had been acting funny. He was fussing and fitful in his sleep and had refused to eat the ice cream I offered him (very odd considering he normally begs for it). At one of our stops to nurse Rowan I got Hudson out and handed him up to my mom so he could stretch and play. He threw up all over my mom. It was terrible! From then on, things didn't get better. Hudson threw up again a few hours later and we got into terrible rain and snow for the last couple hours of the trip. To make matters worse, Rowan was having a horrible fit. She just couldn't take it anymore and neither could the rest of us! At one point, I said to both of them, "This is not helping Mommy's anxiety!" I'm sure they understood.
It was a long, exhausting day, but the most important thing is that we made it. God saw us through the storm (literally) and got us to our destination. He is so good!
Here is Rowan during part of the trip. She's not sure if she should be content or concerned.
Yesterday was a good day. We made a trip to the mall and the kids finally got to show off their double stroller in public:
We had fun looking around and did some light shopping. We had pizza for lunch and Paradise Bakery cookies in the food court. After that, the kids were getting tired. They napped in their car seats while I ran into Nordstrom Rack and Mom waited with them in the car. I found a great deal on sunglasses and got a new pair of flip flops! It was a successful outing.
A quick update on my sleeping: it is going much better! In the past 2 weeks I have only had one bad night. I'm feeling very optimistic that my serotonin levels are finally getting back on track! Once again, God has been by my side. He has sustained me and replenished me.
"Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him." Psalm 37:7
Oh my goodness Taylor! What a crazy trip. I'm so glad you finally made it safe & sound. You are definitely one tough Mama! Hope you enjoy your time in Colorado w/ family!!
